Student Scholarship Programs

Our scholarship program provides opportunities for students graduating from high school.

March 2, 2017 is the deadline for all scholarships.

Letters of Recommendation, Official Academic Transcripts & FAFSA Student Aid Reports (SAR) must all be submitted by the deadline.

 


Dr. John & Mae Benjamin Scholarship

College Major/Area of Study: Medicine
Student Profile: Glendale Unified School District public or private high school graduating senior who is accepted to attend an accredited college to pursue a medical or pre-med program.
Special Requirement: A personal essay about your career goals in medicine must be received with the scholarship application.

“Big Man Fritsche” Scholarship

College Major/Area of StudyWoodworking, Auto Mechanics, Plumbing, Landscaping, Healthcare, Electrical, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, etc.
Student Profile: A recipient of this scholarship must reside and graduate from a public/private high school in the service region of the Community Foundation of the Verdugos. The student must be pursuing his/her education and working toward a certificate or degree from an accredited institution in a career technical field. Financial need will also be considered. The student should show an entrepreneurial aptitude, a potential for achievement and evidence of self-motivation.
Special Requirement: A personal essay discussing the importance of education, what motivates him/her, an entrepreneurial vision; perhaps a plan/idea to implement during or after studies, in a selected area of his/her career technical field. If qualified, the student may be considered for a personal interview on a Saturday in April 2017.

Awards Range Between:  $1,000 – $5,000 annually. Award amounts will be at the discretion of the Community Foundation of the Verdugos Scholarship Committee based on the institution’s (the student plans to attend) overall financial aid package, student’s program of study, certificate/degree objective and entrepreneurial vision. Award may be renewable during undergraduate education only.
Note: Renewal consideration will also require continuous community service activity and the completion of a Community Service Confirmation Form that will be provided to the eligible student at the end of each academic year.

Christopher A. Burrows Memorial Scholarship

College Major/Area of Study: Any
Student Profile:
College-bound private/public high school senior who resides in La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta, Montrose or Verdugo City and is graduating in June 2017 from a high school in La Canada Flintridge or La Crescenta. The student must demonstrate a high level of academic and extra-curricular achievement, strength of character and a zest for life. An applicant’s need for financial assistance will also be considered.
Special Requirements: Must submit a Burrows Scholarship Statement and a Personal Essay. Scholarship finalists may be interviewed in the spring of 2017 by the Burrows Scholarship Committee.

 The First Christian Church of Glendale Scholarship

College Major/Area of Study: Any
Student Profile:
Student must show proof of a minimum of 13 years residency in the Glendale, La Crescenta, La Cañada Flintridge, Montrose, Verdugo City, Sunland or Tujunga area, even if attending other area private or public high schools. An example of fulfilling this criterion might be by providing a copy of a bill, rental agreement, mortgage/deed documentation, school transcript, parent’s marriage certificate or other credible form from 13 years ago; showing that the address is/was in the specified areas above. Additionally, the student must have a minimum overall 2.5 GPA and must be a U.S. Citizen. Special Requirement: A personal essay explaining his/her religious belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and his/her personal Savior and view on what it means to be an American.

Glendale Latino Association Scholarship

College Major/Area of Study: Any
Student Profile: Student must have Latino heritage and be graduating from a Glendale Unified School District public/private high school or Allan F. Daily Continuation High School. Student must be committed to attending a two-year or four-year college/university or a career technical training institution. Special consideration will be given to those students who have performed community service.
Special Requirement: A personal essay about the student’s Latino heritage as well, as the importance of education is required. If qualified, the student will be considered for a personal interview.

Gonzales Harris Bilingual Scholarship

College Major/Area of Study: Any
Student Profile:
A graduating public/private high school senior of the Verdugo region planning to attend and/or already attending an accredited, four-year community college/university or career technical school may apply. The applicant must have a minimum overall 3.5 GPA and be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship and be able to demonstrate fluency (written & verbal) in both Spanish and English.
Special Requirement:
A personal essay outlining the importance of education and how he/she will contribute back to the community; it should also include reference to student’s bilingual fluency and its benefits including cultural awareness, which helps to make one a better citizen overall. If qualified, the student may be considered for a personal interview on a Saturday in April 2017. The student’s Spanish fluency will be assessed during that interview.

Awards Range Between: $2,000 – $6,000 annually. Award amounts depend on student’s college/university/career technical school (that the student plans to attend) enrollment status and overall financial aid package. Award may be renewable during undergraduate education only.

John & Elsie Krikorian Journalism Scholarship

College Major/Area of Study: Journalism, Publishing, Marketing or Business
Student Profile: Must be a graduating senior of a Glendale, Burbank, Foothill, or surrounding Los Angeles area private or public high school.
Special Requirement: A personal essay discussing his/her career goals in the area(s) of journalism, publishing, marketing or business, must be received with the scholarship application.

Student Profile: Must be a graduating senior of Glendale High School. Special Requirement: This scholarship is academic-based and requires a personal essay regarding the student’s academic achievements and community service accomplishments during high school.

The Sambar Scholarship Endowment

College Major/Area of Study: Any
Student Profile: College-bound, graduating senior of a Glendale Unified School District public or public high school. Student must be committed to attending a two-year or four-year college/university and must demonstrate financial need. Additionally, the student must show that the scholarship will make a difference in the student’s ability to obtain higher education.
Special Requirement:
A personal essay regarding overcoming obstacles that he/she has faced during his/her life.

Tuesday Afternoon Club Scholarship

College Major/Area of Study: Any
Student Profile: Student must be a graduating senior from a private or public high school within the Glendale Unified School District and must be continuing his/her education at a university/college, or career technical institution. Financial need must be demonstrated, along with proof of U.S. Citizenship and community service. The student should be able to show a potential for achievement, success, and self-motivation.
Special Requirement: In a personal essay the student must discuss the importance of education.
